About Christoph Steiner

My enthusiasm for climbing began more than 15 years ago during an adventure week in Windischgarsten. Since then, sport climbing, bouldering and alpine experiences have become an integral part of my life, and a personal passion has developed into a professional role.
It is particularly important to me to share knowledge clearly and responsibly. In my courses, people should not simply imitate movements and belaying procedures, but understand why they work. I therefore combine sound specialist knowledge, clear teaching methods and personal coaching, adapted to each participant's experience, learning goal and individual pace.

Qualifications, Experience and Responsibility
My Climbing Background

Depending on the semester and course schedule, I coach approximately 80 to 100 climbers each week through my different roles at Climbing Academy Vienna, Kletterhalle Marswiese and the University Sports Institute Vienna. Courses with Climbing Academy Vienna remain exclusive sessions for individuals or their own groups.
Quality, Safety and Continuing Education
In my work as a climbing coach, I have repeatedly seen how widely the quality of climbing instruction can vary, in the understanding of safety, teaching methods, specialist knowledge and personal interaction with participants. Sometimes outdated recommendations are still passed on, or safety-relevant content is not taught with the necessary care and clarity.
Climbing Academy Vienna grew out of these experiences. I wanted to provide climbing courses where it is clear who leads the course, which principles guide the instruction and which professional standards participants can expect. You should not only learn what to do, but also understand why a procedure works and why it matters for your safety.
Belaying standards, equipment recommendations, training methods and teaching approaches continue to develop. I therefore attend regular professional development and combine current teaching recommendations and specialist literature with practical experience from climbing gyms, real rock, mountain rescue, competition coaching and instructor training. This is what Climbing Academy Vienna stands for: current specialist knowledge, clear instruction and personal coaching.
